This ad leaves me wishing I had thought of the idea first. How brilliant.
Sometimes I get a little jaded seeing demonstrations or minimalist ads with soft guitar music playing the background, but this just brings it home for me. This ad makes a clear statement: We are Apple. We’ve just built the best phone the world has ever seen. You may as well declare bankruptcy now, because we own you’.
And there’s no pretentiousness about this ad, at least for me. The other ads, while they are authentic and nerdy, they’re still pretentious. ‘This is the best iPod we’ve ever made’, ‘Yay, let’s surf the web with the most advanced internet controls in a mobile phone’. I like just like straightforward hubris: 2007 an iPhone odyssey.
